In November 2024, the Parent Trap star appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen where she gave an update on the biopic.

"Are you working on that? I know she gave her blessing for you to star in it," host Andy Cohen said at the time.

Lohan confirmed, "We’re working on the story. It’s exciting."

She went on to say, "It’s gonna be pretty intense. It has to be the way that she wants it to be, so I really want it to be special in that way."

Portraying the Bye Bye Birdie actress wouldn’t be a biopic first for Lohan, who previously starred as Elizabeth Taylor in the 2012 television film Liz & Dick.

However, she’s remained adamant that to pull off paying homage to the famed actress, everything must be done right.

Dick Van Dyke, who’s set to turn 100 this December, has always had a lot of energy, according to his Bye Bye Birdie costar Ann-Margret.

Ann-Margret, 84, spoke to PEOPLE on Sunday, Sept. 21 at the 7th Annual Daytime Beauty Awards at Grand Venue, Los Feliz, Calif. and remembered working with Van Dyke on the 1963 film. The actress played Kim MacAfee, a teenage girl who’s obsessed with Jesse Pearson’s Conrad Birdie. She memorably sings “Bye Bye Birdie” at the beginning and end of the movie, filmed in front of a blue background. Van Dyke, in his film debut, played songwriter Albert Peterson, a role he created in the original 1960 Broadway production. He also won a Tony for the part.

Ann-Margret isn't saying bye bye to the cameras just yet.

The Bye Bye Birdie star, who has largely remained out of the spotlight in recent years, stepped out at Project Angel Food's Lead With Love fundraiser in Los Angeles June 28.

Ann-Margaret, 84, was all smiles on the red carpet, where she wore a long sleeve black tunic, black leggings and knee high patterned black boots. She paired the look with a silver cross necklace, styling her strawberry blonde hair with curtain bangs.
