After test audiences have a negative reaction to Elvis dying at the end of the film Love Me Tender, The King is called back to re-shoot the scene. In the new ending, he’s a singing ghost of an extra verse of Love Me Tender on the Fox sound stage for use over the final credits of the movie. The backing vocals and strings were subsequently overdubbed.

Elvis appeared, not singing, on a WMCT radio and TV fund raising event in Memphis, where he told the audience that the shooting of his next movie would begin on October 30.

Elvis Presley didn´t answer the big one last night on the United Fund telecast.

Mrs. Eugart Yerian asked, ‘Is Anita still No. 1?’ Elvis didn’t answer.

Mrs: Yerian said, ‘Guess that’s a private matter’.

She and her husband, director of Memphis Little Theater, both doing the interviewing for the SUN program that included Marguerite Piazza, Cary Middlecoff and Hillman Robbins Jr., went on to other questions.

Elvis said he starts his next picture Oct. 30.

What about the draft board? ‘Haven’t heard from them’.

What about straight acting? ‘I’ll never make it’, said Elvis, with a grin.

Elvis went on to say, however, that he ‘would like a straight acting role. It would depend on the script’.

Elvis went to Nashville again, to Studio B, to record 3 songs for his soundtrack of his next film, Stay Away Joe. Elvis was not involved in the song selection and was so discouraged by the lack of quality of the movie material that he made Felton Jarvis swear that he would never release one of its songs on record: “Dominic” – which RCA did, and BMG/Sony, and the movies themselves as well.

1968

Dewey Philips had died and Elvis attended his funeral at the Memphis Funeral Home, where 10 years earlier the funeral of his mother were held too. He offered Dewey’s widow his condolences and said: “Mrs. Dorothy, Dewey was my friend.”

In fairness, Dominic wasn't officially released until much later (1993 maybe?), long after Felton was gone and RCA was absorbed by BMG...

He wouldn't have imagined having such a fanbase all these years after his death either!

And Felton didn't keep that take of Hurt, it was from David Briggs' tape recorder.

Oh I wonder if the double taping was known then

Yeah Elvis seemed to think he would be forgotten

I think there are more statues around the planet of him than anyone else
