Where does the background on this song and it being submitted to Elvis Presley come from?

Over my head
The song was written by Shuman-Lynch; it was selected for recording in january 1969. However Chips Moman wanted new songs and the recording was replaced by You'll think of me. Around june 1967 the song was already recorded by Cilla Black (Parlophone R 5608). There's a clip on Youtube.

Re: Rejected tracks
A little less conversation
The song was selected to be included in the NBC TV Special; Elvis should sing to a pre-recorded instrumental track. The instrumental track was a dub-down version (Elvis' vocal removed) from the recording on 7 march 1968 track 2004 take 16. This instrumental track is released on acetate (+LP 68'Comeback).
The first version was selected to be included after the Guitar man - opening scene / Commercial break according to pages 10-11 from the script dated 11 june 1968.
The second version (reprise) was selected to be included after the Arena medley according to pages 31-32 from the script dated 11 june 1968.
According to the revised script from 26 june 1968 the reprise version was cut; finally both versions were not recorded at all.
