G I Blues FTD Boxset - Set Assembly Problem

Post by FanFrom'61 »

I’ve been made aware by a couple of collectors (there could be others) that their sets whilst including 5 actual CDs, that some discs have in fact been duplicated, which means that the sets are basically incomplete.

So for any collector who has not yet opened theirs for whatever reason or are awaiting their set, they should open them without delay. It was suggested that they should contact Pal Granlund or dealer, as there seems to be no way of contacting FTD directly - i know a fellow fan who has told me they have done this, but no firm response so far, which of course is worrying if there are no spares as dealers tend to get complete sealed sets etc.

Good that you sent out this warning! The sets are expensive enough to check it.

I had the problem with the (sealed) TTWII book/CD combo. One CD was in the set twice and another CD was missing. I ordered from Elvismatters. I sent them a photo I took of the set with the double CD. They sent me the missing CD without further questions, just apoligies... even if it wasn't their mistake. I don't know how they solved the problem for themselves, but it was service all the way!

A fellow fan also had a problem with two duplicate CD`s in one of the big FTD sets. The only problem was that they did not buy immediately and by the time the did get the set and checked it out, there were no replacements. They ended up getting a home copy CD from another fan which is terrible.

Never had any issues with wrong discs in a Elvis releases but have had some issues with other titles and formats.
Mostly scratches and movie disc that simply didnt work.
And one time I purchased a game but for whatever reason it was putted on the shelf and years later when
opening the sealing the case was empty aka no disc.

It is a small risk for anyone buying expensive FTD releases and keep them sealed :|
When someone pays out £200 / $270 plus shipping, they want what they have paid for - I would not call that a small risk especially if later down the line, they need to sell the item for whatever reason.

I fully agree! For this price, quality control has to be optimal. And in case something does go wrong, the company should be able to guarantee that the customer will still get a complete product (or a full refund... but no collector would be happy with that). So they have to arrange it, one way or another (some spare CD's, books, whatever). It should be their problem... not the customer's. But... that's not how it works... I guess.

Apparently Sony Denmark does not offer any support structure to FTD. Everything indicates that the label is run by Ernst and Roger, perhaps with a few other people contributing...

that is disturbing to have duplicate discs and incomplete sets

the multi disc packaging can be awful and damaging to the discs

I bought a season of Gilmore Girls and several discs were scratched

I return to HMV to exchange it and insisted on opening the new one, which had different discs scratched

I ended up opening all 5 copies of that season from the shelf to get 1 set of unscratched discs

the clerk was unhappy, but had no way to argue with me

i said it was better to find out in the shop instead of returning after each set
