Re: Elvis Music On Vinyl reissues
These things exist just to make money. They have no intrinsic value and there's nothing artistic about them. Nothing at all. I confess that I do enjoy (and buy) the occassional colored vinyl like the recent "Moody Gold" on FTD, but this? Isn't it obvious?

Re: Elvis Music On Vinyl reissues
All releases exist to make money, otherwise there is no point in the record company releasing records. Yes I get where you are coming from, but it might just be that some missed out on the original releases, But no one is holding a gun to anyone’s head to make the purchase but I think we are getting to the point where many collectors are now drawing a line in the sand, even with FTD or Sony releases and are not buying just because Elvis’ name is in the label. And with the well almost dry with so much barrel scraping going on, it begs the question as to what Sony will find to release in 2027 that collectors have not already got.On Tape 1972 wrote: August 22nd, 2025, 12:36 pm These things exist just to make money. Re: Elvis Music On Vinyl reissues
Making money is the main reason for every business in the world! MOV is a company that re-issues vinyl under license of the original record label and/or artist. They are obliged to use the label of the original company and add their own logo as being the pressing plant. They make quality products imo. It is not a bootleg label... far from it. They have quite a catalogue of a variety of artists. On Tape 1972 wrote: August 22nd, 2025, 12:36 pm These things exist just to make money. Of course, nobody is forced to buy their releases. But there is a substantial collectors market for these releases.
I understand it if these releases are not your cup of tea, and that's fine, of course! For me... I like to pick and choose releases from MOV and enjoy them very much. Not just Elvis vinyl by the way.
It's good that not everybody likes the same things. It would be a dull world, wouldn't it?
Re: Elvis Music On Vinyl reissues
I only plan to buy the MOV releases that i did'nt had before by MOV.(have several of them in colour or regular black)
From the first releases now, it's only Elvis at Stax.
It looks good, it sounds excellent.

Re: Elvis Music On Vinyl reissues
I think you are right about the licensing. Licensing is the reason that MOV only sells (or is allowed to sell) these re-issues in Europe.Sweet-Angeline wrote: August 23rd, 2025, 5:10 amyes, and start doing the ones they have never touched yet?? but maybe there is a licensing issue??AfoolSuchAsI. wrote: August 23rd, 2025, 4:35 am Its seems fantastic all 3 At Stax , Elvis sings , A date with Elvis ! Re: Elvis Music On Vinyl reissues
Is it a licensing thing or a royalty thing. What would prevent Sony from licensing the product to a third party especially if Sony own the material and more-so if the recordings are pre the 1973 sale. It seems strange that they Sony are prepared to license TTWII but not Elvis Country or Back in Memphis but not From Elvis in Memphis.Bilbobaggins wrote: August 23rd, 2025, 6:01 amI think you are right about the licensing. I don't know what the licensing problem is, but this is what MOV states in "the small print" on their website:FanFrom'61 wrote: August 23rd, 2025, 6:08 amIs it a licensing thing or a royalty thing. Re: Elvis Music On Vinyl reissues
Oh I understand that bit, but not about why only selected titles are going to be available in this series. We get A Date With Elvis and For LP Fans Only from 1959, but not Elvis Is Back, His Hand in Mine, Something for Everybody or Pot Luck as examples or the couple that I previously mentioned.Bilbobaggins wrote: August 23rd, 2025, 6:26 amI don't know what the licensing problem is, but this is what MOV states in "the small print" on their website:FanFrom'61 wrote: August 23rd, 2025, 6:08 amIs it a licensing thing or a royalty thing. Re: Elvis Music On Vinyl reissues
Ah...yes... I see what you mean now. Sorry, misunderstood. I very much agree. These titles would deserve a MOV release (just as King Creole for example). I haven't got a clue why these great albums were not selected. No clue at all...FanFrom'61 wrote: August 23rd, 2025, 6:44 amOh I understand that bit, but not about why only selected titles are going to be available in this series. Re: Elvis Music On Vinyl reissues
Yesterday the 2nd batch of MOV reissues arrived. One, imo, very positive difference is that the packaging of the 4-LP Aloha From Hawaii is different. The older releases were housed in a triple gatefold LP cover. I always felt is was inconvenient to get the LP's in and out of the sleeve.
Now the four LP's are housed in a somewhat box-like sleeve. The LP's are now easy to get out of the sleeve, the same way as a normal LP sleeve. Another difference is that the 24 page booklet is a bit smaller in size now.
I assume the other 4-LP sets will be housed in the same way. And that's good!
Now all I have to do is put them on my turntable a give them a good listen!

Re: Elvis Music On Vinyl reissues
I assume the records are in regular polylined sleeves though or have they used the photos that were used in the 1973 release ie, Elvis in jumpsuit with a mic surrounded by a bunch of girls.Bilbobaggins wrote: October 2nd, 2025, 5:15 am Yesterday the 2nd batch of MOV reissues arrived. Re: Elvis Music On Vinyl reissues
I must add this:
I have now listened to these LP's, except for the last 2 LP's from the Aloha set... What great sets! They look great and they sound fantastic. Ultra silent vinyl. No hiss, no pops or cracks, no ticks whatsoever! Super flat vinyl.
Right now "For The Heart" is blasting out of the speakers. I can faintly hear the neighbours banging on the door, probably begging to turn the volume down. But I won't, I can't... (just kidding)
I know, I am a little (maybe over-) enthousistic... and not everybody is a fan of these re-issues, but I am really enjoying them. Wow!

Re: Elvis Music On Vinyl reissues
True in every word. I must say I was tempted when the news broke on these releases but eventually passed. I choose to focus my collecting on historic vinyl, but that's a personal choice (just like I abandoned FTD vinyl for that reason). For me the MOV and FTD are "nice to have" releases but not "must have" releases because of rarity and historical context. Having said that: quality of MOV is (often) top notch and I can see why quite a few collectors pick these releases to collect. It's a personal choice really. There is no wrong. On Tape 1972 wrote: August 22nd, 2025, 12:36 pm These things exist just to make money. They have no intrinsic value and there's nothing artistic about them. Nothing at all.
