Venus was a perfect label with some truly new material!Bilbobaggins wrote: November 27th, 2025, 9:42 am The next series, Welcome To The Jungle, was released by Venus in 2010 and 2011. The artwork and booklet are top notch! And there are quite a few unreleased takes on these five volumes...

For me, the Venus label was one of the most important in Elvis' entire imported discography. It brought us true rarities, exclusive and unique mixes. They probably have more material stored away... it would be interesting to see a new release from them. The Unedited Masters series is simply fantastic.

Re: Bootlegs with offically unreleased STUDIO outtakes
I agree that the Venus was great and important. However, I think that the most groundbreaking and important labels were the old Bilko label (for, mostly, unreleased studio outtakes) and the Fort Baxter label (mostly soundboards)... Their releases, in the day, were simply jawdropping!dougkapp wrote: December 31st, 2025, 9:07 am For me, the Venus label was one of the most important in Elvis' entire imported discography. Re: Bootlegs with offically unreleased STUDIO outtakes
I agree with you that Bilko and Fort Baxter were very important. These two labels took import or boot releases to a new level, rivaling the label's own releases. I remember, in the 90s, every CD released by these two labels amazed us with its sound quality and rarity. Just Pretend, There's Always Me, and many others were true milestones for fans. And Bilko, Fort Baxter, and even Diamond were responsible for the existence of FTD.
The difference between these labels and Venus is that Venus managed to bring something interesting and new to fans, even after so many years of releases by FTD.
I always wonder how this material got out of the RCA/BMG/Sony archives... I've read many interesting stories...

Re: Bootlegs with offically unreleased STUDIO outtakes
Don’t forget the Golden Archive label, what they were releasing was truly mind blowing at the time. It maybe run of the mill stuff now but back then most of it was brand new to our ears. Plus those covers were just stunning, far better than what RCA were doing at the time. Who could forget that Loving You gatefold photo on the first Rockin’ Rebel? Was Gerr involved with them? I know one of his posters was included in From The Waist Up.

I don't know if Ger was involved. I will look it up in the bootleg book. Maybe it is mentioned there.Colin.Bee wrote: January 1st, 2026, 5:01 am Don’t forget the Golden Archive label, what they were releasing was truly mind blowing at the time. Re: Bootlegs with offically unreleased STUDIO outtakes
@Colin.Bee : I took a quick look, but in the 'bootleg Elvis' book there is no mention that Ger Rijff was involved. But that doesn't mean he wasn't of course. At least, as you mentioned, there was a bonus poster bij Tallhair...
It should be this one... correct?

I completed my collection on the above releases today based on comments from JoeyCoco on page 3 so have all these box sets now!!JoeyCoco wrote: November 28th, 2025, 10:16 amWhen collectors discuss essential Elvis audio releases, the spotlight often falls on the Follow That Dream (FTD) releases. Yet one label from the late 1990s and early 2000s continues to stand out as unexpectedly significant: Cool Romeo and its Celluloid Rock & Unsurpassed Masters series.Bilbobaggins wrote: November 27th, 2025, 12:07 pmThanks @Mike C. Released between 1998 and 2002, these sets appeared during a time when high-quality archival Elvis material was still rare and scattered across uneven bootlegs. Cool Romeo entered the scene with a different approach: carefully curated, alternate takes, session reels, and studio chatter presented in structured, well-thought-out volumes. Unlike many informal fan-made releases of the era, these weren’t rough tape transfers — they were professionally prepared collections with shockingly good sound quality.
To this day, there is no definitive answer. Some believe private collectors had safety copies. Others theorize industry insiders leaked tapes during RCA’s transitional corporate years. Whatever the truth, Cool Romeo’s output demonstrated one thing clearly: these releases were not sourced from fan-dubbed cassettes, they came from high-quality tape lineage.
And in many cases, the results rival — or even surpass — official releases.
A striking example is “Power of My Love” (Take 1). On Cool Romeo’s Unsurpassed Masters series, the take is noticeably more complete compared to the version later issued on FTD’s American Sound 1969 session box. Cool Romeo preserved additional studio chatter and musical lead-in material that gives listeners a fuller sense of the recording environment, something serious collectors value highly.
Even today, decades later, many collectors still regard these sets as reference-level listening. While FTD ultimately expanded the archive with more complete material, alternate takes, and historical context, Cool Romeo’s releases remain:
- historically significant,
- sonically impressive,
- and crucial stepping stones in the evolution of serious Elvis archival collecting.
In hindsight, Cool Romeo’s Unsurpassed Masters & Celluloid Rock weren’t just another bootleg series, they were part of the shift that proved there was demand for complete, well-presented studio sessions rather than random compilations. That pressure arguably helped shape the direction of later official archival releases.
Please post some more Bilbobaggins as this is an awesome thread thanks to you and others.

Re: Bootlegs with offically unreleased STUDIO outtakes
@Sweet-Angeline : I will, but first I have to check my 70's part of my sessions-file. I think I covered about 95% of the officially unreleased outtakes that are on boots. I know there are some unreleased takes on a couple of Venus releases.
I don't include alternate mixes, edits etc. Only outtakes. Also are the outtakes I mentioned so far also released on other bootlegs, but I only mention one source that I have in my own collection (the source I consider being the best quality).
So... I will look into this sooner or later!
