The Famous Groove

Post by Bilbobaggins »

I'd like to share a couple of nice CD's from the "The Famous Groove" label.

In 1996 they released a double CD, "The Complete Frankie And Johnny Sessions". Housed in a beautiful 10" cover. The session wasn't complete because not all session tapes were at hand. If I'm not mistaken some tapes are lost, even in the RCA vaults. Even though this soundtrack is one of my least favourite, I still take it off the shelve every now and then. Sometimes even just to look at it...

This release wasn't a rushjob.

A year later "The Complete Spinout Sessions" was released. This time the complete session with some bonus tracks added...

I bought a lot of bootlegs in the ’90s, but I didn’t buy any of the Famous Groove label releases....nothing from them was tempting to me.

it was always astonishing to me the bootlegs that were of the studio recordings

the fan recorded stuff I was not surprised by, other than in the amount of people able to sneak devices into shows

my own attempts were hit and miss, more often getting caught with my camera than not

...sadly a lot of things have disappeared from the vaults over many years, before and after Elvis died, some was found located whatever but I am quite sure other things have been lost forever or someone will not part with it still thinking it`s worth a million dollars ;)

Which concerts did you attend, if you don't mind sharing? It is always great to listen to first person accounts.

Not Elvis, sadly

I am 2 weeks older than Lisa Marie should be

I got a camera into a Poison concert but got caught during the show

I have seen David Lee Roth on his California Girls Tour and Poison was the opening act, but they got replaced with the vancouver punk Band DOA. it was a bad combo and over 35 dollars in pennies were thrown at DOA

I have seen Bon Jovi twice, where Arrowsmith and Motely crew did a walk on during the new Jersey Tour

I have seen Melissa Etheridge twice.

I saw Queen (half of ) with Adam Lampert

And Dolly Parton

I sucessfully took an audio recorder and camera into a texas band Two Nice Girls on their last tour

I did take photos at Sara and Tegan but most were streaming the concert

and I used to photo/video a vancouver BC based Elvis impersonator

This release is from the French "Tulsa Records" label, as the cover and label shows. I placed it in this thread because I suspect that it is from the same makers as the two sets mentioned above. The layout and housing of the CD's are quite similar. But I could be wrong...

Released in 1995, 500 Copies were printed. It is a 4 CD set and one 12" LP. Housed in a beautiful glossy double 12" sleeve. Another one I like to take off the shelves. :)

A year or so later there was a re-print by the same (?) label. It was a 5 CD digipack. Four CD's were straight copies of the 4 CD's in the original release while the 5th CD was a copy of the 12" vinyl in the original release. I don't own this 2nd release.

The first release is superior in every way, imo.
