Re: Elvis Music On Vinyl reissues
Just seen they have reduced the quantity on the bundle that is not Exclusive and the indidual albums too. 2nd to None and Live in Memphis are 2000 copies and Loving You is down to 1500. Previous, everything outside of the MoV Exclusives were 2500. Also there is no mention of them being numbered apart from the Exclusives.Bilbobaggins wrote: October 3rd, 2025, 7:02 am For those interested...The next batch will be:

Re: Elvis Music On Vinyl reissues
It may be a wise decision to reduce the quantity. 3000 units of the first 2 batches (the 500 exclusives included) seems a bit high nowadays. If I'm not mistaken, FTD also reduced the quantity of their releases in the passing of the years... It's not that the Elvis fandom is growing in numbers, I guess.FanFrom'61 wrote: October 3rd, 2025, 8:19 amJust seen they have reduced the quantity on the bundle that is not Exclusive and the indidual albums too. 2nd to None and Live in Memphis are 2000 copies and Loving You is down to 1500. Re: Elvis Music On Vinyl reissues
I’m sure it is a result of lack of sales. The first two sets and individual albums are still available. Yes I believe FTD release are between 1500 and 2000 for their vinyl releases depending on the music content. And with those kind of numbers, I find it quite amusing that the hype coming out of FTD for this forthcoming Good Times release is that it is a "Limited Edition" release with 3500 pressed although it’s a cunning way of getting the sales.Bilbobaggins wrote: October 3rd, 2025, 8:34 amIt may be a wise decision to reduce the quantity. 3000 units of the first 2 batches (the 500 exclusives included) seems a bit high nowadays. Re: Elvis Music On Vinyl reissues
Apologies…my fault, but I think we are talking at cross purposes here. We were originally talking about the pressing numbers for the latest batch of MoV releases going down, possibly due to lack of sales. .It was coincidental that we moved on to the pressing numbers for FTD vinyl which you highlighted in your question. So to clarify, there is no FTD website - the FTD numbers are average of what have been reported in the last few years. On Tape 1972 wrote: October 4th, 2025, 7:51 amFTD's website?FanFrom'61 wrote: October 4th, 2025, 1:28 amTheir websiteOn Tape 1972 wrote: October 3rd, 2025, 11:02 pmWhere do these numbers come from?FanFrom'61 wrote: October 3rd, 2025, 10:23 am I’m sure it is a result of lack of sales. The final point being made was that FTD were now claiming their Good Times release was a limited pressing at 3500, but how limited is "limited" if their regular releases are between 1500 and 2000 copies.

Re: Elvis Music On Vinyl reissues
OK, whatever. I am really not sure if the numbers you mentioned are correct though. Based on what I know, and I've been purchasing FTD product since 2001, is that the products are basically print on demand, for the amount of preorders determines the size of the print run. Maybe they started out with 1500 units when the vinyl was a brand new category. They had to start somewhere with their very first vinyl, right?FanFrom'61 wrote: October 4th, 2025, 8:12 amApologies…my fault, but I think we are talking at cross purposes here. Regarding the limited and numbered edition of 3500 units: Artificial scarcity as a marketing / sales strategy is being used by all kinds of businesses. I for one am glad that the rare Good Times LP is getting a re-release. It's been a long standing request by many and re-issuing the same content with a different cover and a different colored vinyl protects the integrity and collectability of the original release while giving new customers / fans the option to get their hands on the title. They've really hit the sweet spot here, if you ask me.
Apologies for being off-topic.

Re: Elvis Music On Vinyl reissues
From memory, FTD was pressing around 3000/3500 vinyl units initially, but it has fallen off in recent years. The early CDs and the classic album releases were around 6000 units with soundboards around 3500. Soundboards have dropped off too, because many were getting fed up with the repeatability factor of the shows. I’m sure that FTDs current pressings are based on pre-orders but with a percentage on top for latecomers, but I don’t think that was their initial way of pressing - it was a result of sales falling off after that. I know that because originally, FTD use to carry stock for quite some time whilst dealers could place top up orders long after the initial release date.On Tape 1972 wrote: October 4th, 2025, 9:54 amOK, whatever. These new MoV releases initially were 500 for the Exclusive pressings and 2500 for non exclusive, but this very lates batch of non exclusive have reduced pressings - 2000 for two of the titles and 1500 for the third. I can only assume this is because the first batch has not sold that well with copies still available.

I am unable to back up any of the numbers you just entioned. But let’s not forget that, with regard to vinyl, they didn’t ship the numbers in 2010 that they do now. In recent years, sales have skyrocketed across the board. Physical revenue is mainly due to vinyl these days—ironic as that may sound.FanFrom'61 wrote: October 4th, 2025, 10:22 amFrom memory, FTD was pressing around 3000/3500 vinyl units initially, but it has fallen off in recent years. These MOV re‑issues certainly look pretty, but this whole campaign feels a bit overkill to me. Three or four batches of three titles each, released in two different colors—one of them limited, the other strictly limited to 500 copies. I’ve bought the contents on these records numerous times over the years, and they don’t come cheap either. My go‑to vendors charge €30 for a single LP and even €75–€90 for the 4‑LP set. Thanks, but no thanks. I'm sure others feel the same.
In short: too many titles, too many options, too expensive.

Re: Elvis Music On Vinyl reissues
Well I wasn’t really asking you to back anything up. It’s info I was told back at the start of FTD by Roger Semon on how it was going to operate and by a couple of dealers several years later. There has been a gradual downturn in recent years in all commodities that they sell.On Tape 1972 wrote: October 4th, 2025, 12:59 pmI am unable to back up any of the numbers you just entioned. And whilst the actual sales revenue might be tops with vinyl, what matters most is profit and there’s no way that the income from vinyl with its high production costs outweighs the profit from the CD releases with their lower production costs, especially the soundboard releases where the printing costs would be considerably less.
I wouldn’t say that those MoV releases are over expensive. I can either buy direct from MoV where a single album is £25 / €28 which is a competitive price for some single albums in the UK, whilst their double albums work out at £35 / €39. Their 4LP set of Live in Memphis is £64 / €68. If I buy them from an authorised dealer, there is generally an uplift of £3 on single albums, £4 on double albums and £6 on 4 LP sets. So I don’t think that €75-€90 is excessive for a 4 LP set. FTD would probably charge €110.
The MoV prices for a double album are a lot cheaper than the £55 I would have to pay for an FTD double album. The question has to be why the big difference as they offer the same kind of product and there are two possibilities. One is that FTD are taking a much bigger profit margin or whilst their costs are the same, their actual unit costs are higher because they do not have the same amount of sales.
But it’s all subjective in what we want to buy….or not….
